FAQ

I haven’t ridden a horse before. Is EAL for me?

Yes!

This is not a horse-skills development experience, rather it’s about ‘being’ with the horse in the moment, and doing things to build a relationship including grooming, walking, leading, talking, sitting, observing and relaxing with them.

(But this isn’t to say you won’t pick up some horsemanship skills along the way!)

What happens before the first session?

There is a chat on the phone before you book, to talk about what you hope to get out of the session and ask questions.  If you aren’t sure what you would like to address in the session, that’s ok. I am here to help with that and can assist with finding what you feel you may want to experiment with in your equine experience.

How do I book a session?

Complete the Client Contact Form, and I will be in touch.

Alternatively, you can email me at Wilkydoo2013@outlook.com or send a message to my Facebook Page.

Will I need to fill out any paperwork?

At your first session, there will be an Agreement to Participate in EAL form to sign along with the Client information form with your details.

What do I need to bring?

This is an outdoor activity so dress accordingly, as you may be sitting or standing in the environment for an hour or so.

Wear: A hat and sleeved shirt for sun protection or a beanie if it is cold.

Sturdy, closed-in flat shoes are mandatory (runners or boots are good).

Bring: Water bottle (no glass please).

Will anyone else be watching me during the session?

This is your experience. It’s only for you. You will be the focus of the session.  There will be no spectators.

Should another person wish to stay, they will need to participate in the EAL session and will need to pay for the session.

If you haven’t driven yourself, please advise your chauffeur that they may stay in their vehicle, away from the session or go and have a cuppa somewhere off site for an hour.

How long does an EAL session go for?

Around 60 minutes.

Each session is tailored for you by talking with you about your thoughts or feelings and specific personal or professional development needs.
Either my herd of equine assistants (horses) or a single equine assistant will be selected for the session.

What are some of the things I can expect to learn through EAL?

  • Mindfulness skills.
  • Understanding of self on a deeper level.
  • Strategies to address concerns about a behaviour or emotion in your personal or professional life.
  • How to understand the truths about yourself that the horse is telling you.

Is EAL therapy?

While you may find your equine experience therapeutic, EAL isn’t classified as therapy. EAL is a hands-on, outdoor equine experience.

It’s a unique social-emotional learning program. You will be co-facilitated with myself as your practitioner and either one or more of my horses to help you understand the patterns and behaviours that either aren’t serving you well or holding you back.

While EAL isn’t therapy, it is a way to compliment a current room-based therapy you may be engaged in.  You may wish to discuss EAL as a complimentary option with your therapist.  I would be delighted to take their call if they would like to talk with me.

Do you offer single sessions?

I do offer single sessions. I also offer packages for small groups and the Horse Wisdom Program™.

What happens if I need to cancel?

I understand that life happens, and sometimes bookings need to be cancelled or rescheduled. An EAL session requires considerable planning and preparation. Please refer to my cancellation policy for more details.
