Frequently asked Questions

What is EAL?

EAL is not therapy. Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is a form of experiential learning which allows you to learn through experiencing, doing and reflecting.

For more information about the EAL program, you may like to visit: https://www.equinepsychotherapy.net.au/

How does EAL help?

EAL offers:

An innovative way to approach your personal or professional development, strengthening
personal boundaries and positive relationships with yourself

Mindfulness skills

A way to address concerns about a behaviour or emotion in your personal or professional life

A way to compliment a current room-based therapy you may be engaged in with a hands-on,
outdoor equine experience Unique Social-emotional learning program

Do I need to have experience with horses?

You don’t need to be experienced with horses, as this is not a horse-skills development experience. Which isn’t to say you won’t pick up some horsemanship skills along the way!

What do I need to bring?

This is an outdoor activity so dress accordingly, as you may be sitting or standing in the environment for an hour or so.

Wear: A hat and sleeved shirt for sun protection or a beanie if it is cold.

Sturdy, closed-in flat shoes are mandatory (runners or boots are good).

Bring: Water bottle (no glass please).

What happens before the first session?

There is a chat on the phone before you book, to talk about what you hope to get out of the session and ask questions.  If you aren’t sure what you would like to address in the session, that’s ok. I am here to help with that and can assist with finding what you feel you may want to experiment with in your equine experience.

At your first session, there will be an Agreement to Participate in EAL form to sign along with the Client information form with your details.

Safety guidelines for being around the horses will be given before your session.

This is your experience. You will be the focus of the session.  There will be no spectators, only participants.  If you haven’t driven yourself, please advise your chauffeur that they may stay in their vehicle, away from the session or go and have a cuppa somewhere off site for an hour.

Need to cancel your session?

I require 48 hour notice by phone or SMS or email.  This will be in your Agreement to Participate in EAL

Sometimes life happens, and an appointment needs to be cancelled or rescheduled.

Missed appointments or late cancellations will be charged at 50% of the session fee if not made more than 24 hours away from your appointment.
