Horse Wisdom Program

The Horse Wisdom Program was developed by the Equine Psychotherapy Institute. It is a part of its equine assisted experiences which supports you in your social-emotional development.

This program is designed to support you in your personal development goals over seven sessions:

Session 1 – Regulation

Your Calm State – emotional regulation allowing presence, mindfulness, gratitude and feeling content.

Horses show their feelings, by yawning, snorting, neighing (taking an outbreath), grazing, playing, hanging out with the herd, moving around at various gaits, prancing and having a roll.

Session 2 – Awareness

Awareness is noticing what is happening around us, as well as recognising our feelings and sensations in our body and our mind.

Awareness keeps you safe by giving you the choice to respond to your environment and all that may be going on, in the here and now.

Horses are highly evolved prey animals. Their awareness of their environment serves to keeps themselves safe as well as their herd.

Session 3 – Boundaries

Boundaries keep you safe.

Work out what is your Yes and what is your No, in the moment.

You’re OK and You’re Not OK.

These can be physical and mental / emotional boundaries.

Horses model their boundaries and communicate these by using their body language.

Session 4 – Relationships

When thinking about and being in a healthy relationship, you need to feel safe.

Let’s see how our horses can show us healthy relationships.

Session 5 – Feelings

Joy / relaxation – Fear – Anger – Sadness

Feelings are part of us for a reason and provide us with important information about what we are experiencing in the moment.

Horses have feelings like us, they feel it, express it and then, let it go.

Let’s become aware of these feelings and what they want to express.

Week 6 – Thinking

Being aware of your thoughts and how you think, is important.

Horses sense your intention and attention, through your energy, your body language and your feelings.

These can be reflected through your attitude and words.

Session 7 – Facing Life’s Challenges

Life certainly has its challenges.

If we look back on the program experiences so far, we can use the skills we have learned and the modelling our horses have shown us to help us through our life challenges.

Sessions may be delivered individually or in groups of up to 4 on a weekly basis.

School holiday programs may be tailored differently dependant on numbers.
